U.S President, Donald Trump administration is considered a plan to close 10 embassies and 17 consulates, along with staffing cuts at other diplomatic missions abroad.
The plan, detailed in an updated internal State Department memo, would significantly reduce U.S diplomatic footprint across nearly every continent, with Africa bearing the greatest impact.
Six of the proposed embassy closures are in Africa, including Gambia, Lesotho, South Sudan, the Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and Eritrea.
The memo also recommends closing consulates in Durban, South Africa, and Douala, Cameroon.
