United States President Donald Trump is considering commuting Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sentence as early as this week.
The 55 year-old rapper is facing 50 months in prison for two charges of transportation for the purposes of prostitution, having been acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
According TMZ, a high-ranking White House official source told the outlet that the President could commute Diddy’s 50-month prison sentence as early as this week.
The source adds that Trump is supposedly “vacillating” on the decision, and while some White House staff are urging him not to move forward, the insider notes, “Trump will do what he wants”.
Diddy has served 13 months for violating the Mann Act and could be released in about two years without credit, but commutation would override that entirety.
After Diddy’s sentencing earlier this month, his legal team reportedly contacted senior White House official close to Trump to discuss the possibility of commutation or pardon.
Days later, Trump acknowledged publicly that he was aware of the request.
“I have had a lot of people ask me for pardons,” Trump said on October 6, “I call him Puff Daddy, he asked me for pardons”.
The news comes shortly after Trump committed former congressman George Santos’ sentence last Friday October 18.
Santos had been serving an 87-month sentence for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
