
The 15th Governing Council of the University of Jos has appointed a new Librarian for the University for a term of five (5) years.
She is Professor Victoria Ladi Lawal of the Department of Social Science Education, Library and Information Science Unit, Faculty of Education, University of Jos.
The University’s Governing Council considered the report of its Selection Board which interviewed candidates for appointment into the position of the University Librarian and approved her appointment with effect from 14th February, 2025.
The newly appointed Librarian, Professor Victoria Ladi Lawal is the 6th Librarian of the University of Jos.
Until her appointment, Professor Lawal was a Lecturer with the Library and Information Science (LIS) Unit, Department of Social Science Education, University of Jos.
Prior to moving to the LIS programme in the Faculty of Education, Professor Lawal worked in the University of Jos Library from 1995-2016 and had headed different sections of the University Library including Technical Support Services.
Professor Lawal holds a Bachelor Degree in Library Science from the University of Maiduguri, Master Degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, Masters of Library Science from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.
She has published papers widely and presented her publications in different countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and other African countries.
As the first female Professor of Library and Information Science (LIS) in the University of Jos and in Plateau State, Professor Victoria Ladi Lawal brings her wealth of experience to bear in both theory and practice for the development of the University of Jos.
