A pro-Jonathan political pressure group, Bring Back Our Goodluck, has appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan to joined race for the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Nigerins were “mislead in 2015” into voting him out.
Speaking at a press conference in Kano on Sunday, the group’s National Coordinator, Grema Kyari described Jonathan as the “surest path to rescue Nigeria” from worsening hardship and insecurity under the All Progressives Congress, (APC)-led government.
Kyari said Jonathan’s return to power was not only desirable but necessary, citing global precedents such as Donald Trump’s come back bid in the United States and John Mahama’s renewed candidacy in Ghana.
“We were misled in 2015 by the APC under the late Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, and Bisi Akande'”, Kyari declared.
“They sold Nigerians deceitful promises which they never fulfilled. Instead of progress, the country has been plunged into hunger, poverty, and frustration”.
The group on praised Jonathan’s administration as Nigeria’s “last era of economic stability”, agricultural reforms, and youth empowerment programmes, such as YouWin! and SURE-P.
Kyari contrasted that period with today’s economic realties, noting that a bag of rice which sold for N7,800 under Jonathan now costs nearly N100,000.
He further hailed Jonathan as a unifying leader who promoted inclusivity by appointing officials across ethnic and religious divides, describing as the ideal candidate to “heal Nigeria’s deep divisions”.
The group also called in leading opposition figures – including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Obi – to set aside personal ambitions and rally behind Jonathan in 2027.
“2027 will be just another election year but a rescue mission to stop the APC’s erosion of democracy”, Kyari stressed.
According to him, the Bring Back Our Goodluck campaign, which began in the North-East, has now moved to North-West, described as “the heartbeat of commerce and political influence in Northern Nigeria.”.
He ended the press conference with a direct appeal.
“1n 2015, you chose peace over power. In 2027, Nigeria needs you to choose the people again, Let us chase out bad luck, poverty, and hunger. Let us bring back our Goodluck”.
