The immediate past president of Nigeria, Muhammad Buhari disclose his reasons for not sacking the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele during a book launching in Abuja.
Buhari said I met Emefiele in the office when I came and unless there was firm evidence against him, it would be unfair and an act of injustice to remove him, acting on side talk.
If you punished a man unjustly, it could dog his footsteps throughout his lifetime, so if you would punish, you must have evidence, and you should know that you would not be there forever. You would leave one day.
I am very conscious of the morale of the people who serve with me, I also expect those who ever succeed me to be fair to me. I have family and friends who will feel it, I am very conscious of fairness.
Buhari said when the Ex CBN governor, Emefiele, was linked with the Presidential ambition campaign in 2023, I didn’t ask him because he told nobody about his ambition otherwise I would have removed him and informed the nation why he was sacked ” he added “
