Governor Babagana Umara Zulum distributed food and cash to 2,500 displaced persons at Madinatu IDP camp on Friday.
He marked Democracy Day with the visit to Maiduguri’s only remaining IDP camp inside the city.
Each beneficiary received a 25kg bag of rice and a 25kg bag of sorghum, while women also received wrappers.
Zulum announced that ₦50,000 will be credited directly to each beneficiary’s account.
He told residents the current distribution may be the last or second-to-last at Madinatu camp.
Zulum said the camp will be closed before the end of 2026.
He said the closure is part of his administration’s plan to resettle displaced persons.
Several other camps in Bama, Gwoza, and Mafa will also be closed before his tenure ends.
Zulum commended President Tinubu and security agencies for rescuing 434 women and children.
He added that rescue efforts are still ongoing in Dili, Musa, and Chibok.
The governor thanked Borno residents for their support and prayers.
