In a smart political move to check the Peter Obi wind blowing across the country ahead of 2023, PDP and Atiku have perfected a move to placate Southeast for betraying them by choosing one of their sons as its Vice Presidential Candidate.
It was gathered that several high profiles names of Southeast extraction have been pencilled for consideration. Further Investigation revealed that Former Federal House of Representatives, Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha appears to be the consensus option among party leaders.
Checks by this medium revealed that many leaders are yet to buy into this move because of the presidential ambition of their son, Peter Obi who is running on the platform of the Labour Party. Many of the leaders who spoke to 9news Nigeria are not disposed to a Southeast Vice President and have collectively agreed to support Peter Obi’s aspiration.
Former Imo state governor Emeka Ihedioha is expected to be Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, according to a source, if the move succeeds.
When contacted, former Imo state governor’s media aide, AIC Akwarandu, told Vanguard that Emeka Ihedioha’s name is among those being considered by former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
“Ihedioha is not Vice President,” he stated. Atiku has yet to make a decision. However, his name is among those who are being tipped for it, which he is unconcerned about.”
However, a source in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, told 9news Nigeria that Ihedioha is one of the candidates being considered to be Atiku’s running mate.
“Ihedioha has a very good relationship with Atiku and Tambuwal, but during the primary, he mobilised for Tambuwal, and we all saw what happened when Atiku needed help, Tambuwal came to his rescue,” he said. Given the region’s past support for our party, we are considering zoning the Vice Presidency slot to the southeast as a party. And, based on his track record, Ihedioha is the best fit for the role.”
According to media reports, Rivers Governor Nyesome Wike said at a thanksgiving service shortly after the PDP convention, “He stabbed us in the back.” Wike previously stated that he supported Ihedioha’s ambition to become Governor of Imo State before removing him after only seven months in office.
