Former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged sweeping reforms if elected Nigeria’s President in 2027, including changing the Constitution and eradicating corruption within his first month in office or resigning.
Speaking on Friday August 8, during an XSpace session titled Weekend Politics, the former Transportation Minister said he would replace the current indigeneship system with citizenship rights.
“If I become President I will change the Constitution from indigeneship to citizenship.
“If I don’t end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation”, Amaechi declared.
He challenged the current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to walk through the streets of PortHarcourt to prove who is healthier and more beloved by the people.
“I challenges the present FCT Minister – Wike to take a walk along the streets of PortHarcourt, which will reveals who is healthy and who the people actually loved”, the ex- Rivers governor said.
Amaechi accused some powerful figures of frequently visiting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to steal public funds, lamenting that such resources, If properly utilized, could solve the country’s security and economic crisis.
“It enrages me that those very influential among the ruling class visit CBN often to steal money, If they could use all the money they are pocketing to improve security and the economy, Nigeria wouldn’t be in such dire straits toda”, he said.
Amaechi further described Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the worst INEC Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC.

On fuel subsidy, Amaechi vowed not to reverse it’s removal, if elected., but promised to channel the savings directly to ordinary Nigerians rather than the elite.
