Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the ex-Governor of Kano State, has publicly said he is ready to “settle differences” and work with Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, a major political figures and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party)NNPP).
In a recent interview with BBC Hausa, Ganduje described reconciliation with Kwankwaso as possible despite years of political rivalry between them.
He noted that shared history and previous collaboration in Kano politics, saying that as Muslims and political leaders, they can find common ground and “work together in the future”.
Ganduje’s comments come amid shifting political dynamics in Kano State at the national level, where alliances and party affiliation are increasingly under discussion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although Kwankwaso has not publicly committed to joining APC, Ganduje has emphasized an open door for political rapprochement.
The remarks follow a trend of broader political negotiations and speculation about possible realignments involving key party leaders, even as Kwankwaso has previously reaffirmed his commitment to the NNPP.
Analysts say Ganduje’s statement could signal an attempt to strengthen political unity among northern leaders and to test the waters for future alliances, especially with the 2027 elections on the horizon.
Governor Yusuf formally defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, earlier this week, a move that has continued to generate reactions across Kano’s political landscape.
