2027 Will Be APC vs The People – PDP Acting Chairman Fires Warning Shot as Party moves to Restructure Delta

ABUJA – The Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Iliya Damagum, has thrown down the gauntlet ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the race will not just be between political parties but a direct showdown between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian populace.

Speaking at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, Damagum revealed the party’s strategic plans to install a caretaker committee to oversee and revamp party affairs in Delta State. The announcement came during the official presentation of the Certificate of Return to Sir Jude Ezenwafor C., the PDP’s flag bearer for the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election.

In his remarks, Damagum unveiled the party’s intention to establish a caretaker committee in Delta State—an effort aimed at revamping the party’s structure, resolving internal disputes, and ensuring strategic preparedness for future electoral contests.

“With the ongoing wave of defections and political shifts, it has become imperative to strengthen our foundations. Delta is critical to our political comeback, and we are setting the pace for victory,”. With the untold hardship inflicted on us by the ruling party, “The 2027 election won’t be PDP versus APC—it will be APC versus Nigerians.”

During the event, the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum presented the certificate.

Damagum, who commended Ezenwafor’s steadfastness and the party’s evolving unity in Anambra State. Damagum noted that, for the first time in recent history, a PDP candidate in Anambra has emerged without internal wrangling or legal contestations, a development he described as a testament to the maturity and growth of the party in the state.

“This is a clear sign that the Anambra PDP is on the path of stability and progress,” Damagum stated. “It is by God’s will that the obstacles have been cleared. We are moving towards a more united and formidable front.”

In an emotional acceptance speech, Sir Ezenwafor thanked the Acting National Chairman for his unwavering guidance and support. He described Anambra as a natural PDP stronghold, declaring that the coming election would shock political observers across the country.

He further encouraged Ezenwafor to consolidate on the progress made so far and to work towards uniting all party members in Anambra, emphasizing that the national leadership of the PDP is fully behind his candidacy.

The event served as a morale booster for Anambra party loyalists and stakeholders, with the Anambra state PDP Youth Leader Chief Okito Oke, representing the State Party Chairman Chidi Chidebe, emphasized the readiness of the Anambra chapter to deliver victory. He appealed to the National Working Committee and key stakeholders to provide the needed support for a successful campaign. He believes, with the necessary support, their dreams can come to fruition.

“Anambra is ready. This is not just another election—we’re about to set a new standard. We’re here to surprise Nigerians,” Ezenwafor said confidently. “Our campaign will inspire a new generation of leadership.”

As the PDP intensifies its nationwide repositioning, the strategic focus on Delta State marks a bold step in its broader plan to reclaim lost ground and emerge stronger ahead of the 2027 elections.
