Imo House of Assembly was turned into a war zone on Thursday 8th July 2021 after some house members pulled short guns and started shooting sporadically in the house.
In a viral amateur video made available to 9News Nigeria, the house was set in total chaos as house members and staff were running helter-skelter in a bid to save their lives from the shooting.
Over 10 gunshots were heard as house members and staff scamper for their lives. While we are still gathering details on this incident, no loss of life was recorded as at the time of filing this report.
9News Nigeria gathered that trouble ensued after some honourable members of the house who were in opposition to the removal of five honourable members of the house by the current speaker revolted violently.
The voice of the man who supposedly recorded the video was heard saying:
“This is gunshots firing everywhere in Imo State House of Assembly right now. Over the suspension of five honourable members by the speaker of the house.”
“There are sporadic gunshots right now at the Imo State House of Assembly and people are scampering for their lives.”
And then at the later part of the video a voice of one of the honourable members of the house was heard saying:
“With this, you will know who is Uche Ogbuagu” “Speaker, with this you will know I didn’t send myself here, God sent me, and what God has done you can not undo.” “Today is the end of your reign”
