The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has evacuated 180 Nigerians who were stranded in Libya.
NEMA added that the returnees were brought back with the assistance of the European Union (EU) special programme through the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
The latest batch is the fourth to be returned since November 19 from the North African country.
According to NEMA’s acting Southwest Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, the returnees comprised 74 adult females, 14 female children and six female infants, adding that there were 64 adult males, 12 male children and 10 male infants.
“They are being kept for the mandatory seven-day isolation period before being allowed to go to their respective places for those who have no traces of a particular medical issue.
“In the course of isolation period, the returnees will be trained on various skill acquisition and small scale entrepreneurial techniques, while those who are semi-skilled would be trained further and those who wish to embark on entrepreneurial ventures will be facilitated to start on a sound note.
“These are aimed at rehabilitation and engaging them for proper reintegration to their respective communities after the isolation period.
“Other agencies that participated in the operations are NAPTIP, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Nigerian Immigration Services, FAAN and Federal Ministry of Health’s Port Health services,” said Farinloye.
