Following the series of allegations against Imo Governor, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma by Hon Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, group has forwarded a serious petition to the IGP to take immediate actions.
The group under the aegis of Imo Coalition For Justice, Peace and True Democracy has therefore petitioned Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu to the Inspector General of Police IGP over what they described as withholding information on the pervading criminality and insecurity in the south east and allegation of sponsorship and connivance of Gov. Hope Uzodinma.
Recall that Ugochinyere had on Arise Tv programme made unfounded allegations against Gov. Hope Uzodinma bordering on; Gov. Uzodinma and other governors in the south east are enjoying criminality as it benefits them, Gov. Uzodinma is sponsoring and recruiting unknown gunmen into Ebubeagu vigilante group, Imo State Governor is fuelling crisis and killings in South east.
Furthermore, his allegation reads, Imo State Governor Is attacking citizens and their properties through since the crisis in the South East started.
He Ugochinyere also alleged that the Imo State Governor is sponsoring the killings in Ohaji Egbema, Orsu, Okigwe, Onuimo and Arondiuzuogu.
As a civil rights group, Imo Coalition For Justice, Peace and True Democracy stated that these claims by Hon. Ugochinyere is another calculated attempt to politicize and smear the image of the Gov. Hope Uzodinma and that of his brother Governors from the South east by making them complacent to the insecurity that has ravaged the South east if not proven.
The group has therefore called on the Inspector General of police to immediately invite and investigate Ugochinyere over his accusations in line with the constitution and criminal code of Nigeria since he has a good knowledge of the operations of these non state actors and ensures criminal ramifications are undertaken by Ugochinyere to facilitate peace and order in the south east region.
Recall that Gov. Hope Uzodinma with other political leaders from the zone had meet on several occasions on issues bordering insecurity in the region and has continued to chart new ways to curb and bring to its finality, the issue of insecurity in the South East.
However, insecurity in Imo state was said to have been politically contrived while efforts are in high gear to curb the disturbing menace. The group is hereby calling on the Inspector General of Police to please intervene swiftly to save the situation and investigate the costly allegations of Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu against Governor Uzodinma.
