Biafra : IPOB ban’ll guarantee peaceful polls in Anambra –IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has said with the proscription of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), the upcoming governorship elections in Anambra state would be peaceful.

The IGP had earlier attributed the peace being experienced in the South East to IPOB proscription, which he said was responsible for the unrest hitherto experienced, in that part of the country.

Speaking at a meeting with state commissioners of police and above in Abuja, yesterday, Idris said the police have concluded arrangements to deploy massive personnel and logistics to ensure smooth and successful elections scheduled to hold in Anambra, on November 18, 2017.

He charged the commissioners to map out ideas and solutions that would lead to a peaceful and successful elections, even as he commended them for drastically reducing crime rates in the country.

He disclosed the police has already started preparation in the area of eduction of personnel and equipment to be used during the period, to enable them perform creditably and to ensure crisis-free poll.

The IGP noted that IPOB proscription would go a long way to creating a peaceful atmosphere during the elections.

“Before this election, we had serious security problems in the South East, as a result of IPOB activities. I believe those challenges have been addressed since IPOB has been proscribed.

“We deployed 17 units of mobile policemen to the state because of the activities of proscribed IPOB. With these number, I believe they will adequately take care of the state security.

“Things have improved a lot in the South East and I am very sure we will have smooth elections in the state,” the IGP assured.
