The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Plateau State has distanced itself from one Lukman Luka Abdul, who operates a hospital Al-Ihsan Nursing Home and Maternity, located at Angwan Rogo, Jos North local government area of the state.
It could be recalled that security operatives had on Sunday May 5, 2024, sealed Al-Ihasan Clinic, located in Angwan Rogo community in Jos North local government area of Plateau State, over the allegations of quackery and a reported death of a patient who received treatment at the clinic.
The death of the woman, last week following a surgery supposedly performed by the fake Doctor in the hospital had sparked reactions round the area with many attributing the death to the surgery, which had subsequently raised concern about his specialty.
Source from the community who confirmed the incident to 9News Nigeria correspondent said the action by the security operatives was a response to complaint filed by some members of the community to the State Ministry of Health and the DSS regarding the alleged quackery activities taking place in the hospital.
In a swift reaction, the Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Bapiga’an Williams Audu, and the Public Relations Officer, Dr Istifanus Bako, said in a statement jointly signed and issued in Jos on Tuesday May 7, 2024 that upon its investigation into the matter described Lukman Luka Abdul as an imposter falsely parading himself as a Doctor and using the guise to defraud unsuspecting members of the public when in actual sense, he is quack who does not posses the requisite qualifications to practice medicine. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Plateau State also confirmed that the quack has been arrested by gallant operatives of the State Security Service while investigations are ongoing.
“The NMA in collaboration with the security agencies and the State Ministry of Health will continue to ensure that these quacks are driven out of Plateau State, as we remain irrevocably committed to improving the quality of health care of the citizens of the State”.
