YULETIDE: Ban On Fireworks, Pyrotechnics, Knockouts, Highly Enforceable By Imo Police Command

YULETIDE: Imo State Government IMSG under Governor Hope Uzodinma CON has officially banned the use of knockouts in the state following several ugly reports by citizens and residents against the security of the people and the entire state at large.

Having observed the ugly trend of of criminal actions by hoodlums mostly during the yuletide, the state government through the police command have issued a strong warning against the purchase and usage of fireworks, knockouts, pyrotechnics across Imo State Nigeria.

Recall that festive seasons is synonymous with a lot of dangers leading to insecurity and undue attacks on the people. Also, criminals also use the period of yuletide to perpetuate disastrous act against the State as 9News Nigeria reports.

This is contained on a press release issued by the Imo police command on Sunday, 1st december, 2024 and made available to the press. The release was signed by ASP Okoye Henry, (ANIPR) police PPRO Imo state command. The release reads thus:

The Imo State Police Command reiterates that the ban on the sale, use, and distribution of pyrotechnics, commonly known as “knockouts” or “bangers,” remains fully enforced across the state.

This measure, in place for some time, is essential for public safety, preventing injuries, and reducing the risks of fires and accidents caused by fireworks.

With the festive season approaching, the Command warns that any individual or group caught in possession of or using pyrotechnics—whether during public holidays, festivals, or private events—will be arrested and face severe legal consequences.

The Command will continue to conduct regular patrols and operations to ensure strict compliance with this directive.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, appeals to residents, event organizers, and business owners to cooperate with this directive and report any illegal activities involving pyrotechnics to the nearest police station. The Command appreciates the ongoing support of the public.

The Command assures that enhanced security measures will be implemented throughout the Yuletide period to safeguard lives and property.

The police will maintain law and order, ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all during the festive season. That is to say, ” the strict restriction on purchase and usage of fireworks, knockouts, pyrotechnics across Imo State Nigeria is highly enforceable.
