The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the detention of a policeman captured in a recent viral video shared by the sons of Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, showing the abuse of the naira.
The officer’s involvement in the incident has been widely condemned as unethical and contrary to the core values of the police force.
In a statement on Friday addressing the issue, the police emphasized their commitment to upholding professionalism and ethical conduct within the force.
“The involvement of the policeman in such an act is unacceptable and undermines the sanctity and credibility of the police,” the statement read.
The authorities have assured the public that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against the officer.
The video, which sparked outrage on social media, has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of ethical standards among public officers and private individuals alike.
Some critics also argued that the police should also consider disciplinary measures against the Okoya sons involved in ‘naira abuse’, which the police has always warned against.
