A 39-year-old man, Shodimu Olawale, has dragged his wife to Mapo customary court in Ibadan for dissolution of marriage over assault and battery.
Shodimu, a surveyor said that his wife does not know how to take proper care of their two kids, adding that she is in the habit of hitting and stripping him naked each time they had a misunderstanding.
“I provide for my wife and kids in all ways I can but my wife does not know how to take proper care of the kids.
“When corrected, she flares up, hits, beats, and strips me naked. She is fond of insulting my parents and relatives at the slightest misunderstanding.
“On different occasions, I have had to run out naked from the house to a nearby police station for fear of my life.
“On a particular occasion, she broke my head with a bottle.”
Olawale further stated that he had reported the matter to the police, and she was asked to write an undertaking to ensure she desist from such acts, but then, it turns out that her inactions get worse by the day.
According to him, in spite of the undertaking written by his wife, she has refused to change.
Olawale prayed the court to dissolve the 6-year-old marriage on the grounds that the love between them had faded.
The respondent, Shodimu Sekinat counterclaimed that her husband beats her each time she tries to correct him over any of his bad characters. She further claimed that her mother-in-law is a deceitful woman
“My husband beats me to stupor each time I try to correct him on his bad characters, claiming that I am disrespectful.
“My mother-in-law is one of the major reasons why we usually have misunderstandings. She is a deceitful woman.
“Whenever my husband comes back from work, she would tell him that I insulted her, which I have never done before.”
The president of the court, Ademola Odunade dissolved the marriage, and awarded the custody of the two children to the wife, and directed the Olawale to pay for the monthly feeding, allowances, and school fees of the two children.
