The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its two day warning strike, effective immediately, as announced by its President, Dr. Tope Osundara, on Sunday, September 14.
The decision follows a partial fulfillment of association’s demands by the Federal Government, with assurances to address remaining concern.
Dr. Osundara stated, the strike has been suspended as a gesture of goodwill to support Nigerians seeking healthcare services at our facilities.
He said; Some of their demands have been met, and the government has committed to resolving the issues.
NARD said the suspension of the warning strike, alongside the government’s renewed commitment to dialogue, informed the suspension of the action.
“After due deliberations, and considering the plight of Nigerianss grappling with health issues in the present harsh economy, the NARD resolved to suspend the strike action to allow the government a two-week window to fully implement our demands, the memo read.
NARD, reaffirmed its commitment to working with all levels of government to ensure better welfare for for health workers and a stronger health care system for Nigerians.
NARD plans to monitor the government’s progress on outstanding demands, including unpaid arrears and the downgrading of membership certificates issued by the West African Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
