Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has described the recent surge in kidnapping incidents across the country as politically motivated acts.
Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District and is a former governor of Abia State, made the assertion on Sunday during a programme on Channels Television.
He stated that similar patterns were witnessed during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, insisting that some actors use insecurity as a tool to mount pressure on the government in power.
“The kidnapping incidents are obviously politically motivated, because elections are coming and people are trying to pressurise the government in power. It happened in Jonathan’s time as well; it is aimed at destabilising the government,” Kalu said.
He, however, expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the situation, noting that the President has taken swift and decisive actions to confront the security challenges.
“President Tinubu is equal to the tasks. You can see he cancelled everything and he is currently facing the security challenges head on. The government is putting in all necessary effort to recover all those who have been kidnapped and they will be recovered,” he added.
