FIFA increases 2026 World Cup Prize Money By 50%

In a major boost for participating nations, FIFA has approved a 50% increase in Prize money for the 2026 World Cup.

The winning team will now take home a staggering $50 million, marking the highest payout in the tournament history.

The decision comes as part of FIFA’s broader financial expansion strategy ahead of the 48-team tournament.

The governing body expects record revenues -allowing for greater financial rewards for teams and associations.

The winners of the 2026 World Cup will record $50million in Prize money as part of a record financial contribution for the tournament’s from FIFA, the world football’s governing body said on Wednesday.

The total World Cup prize fund of $665 million (558.5 million euros) represents an increase of almost 50 percent from the $440 million distributed to teams taking part in the last tournament in Qatar in 2022.

The move is also seen as a way to enhance competition, improve player welfare, and motivate smaller footballing nation’s to perform beyond expectations on the world stage.

However, next year’s World Cup – to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19 – will be the first to feature 48 teams, a 50 percent increase from the 32 teams last time.
