Bishop of the Yola Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Stephen Mamza, has donated livestock, drugs and essential items to inmates at the Jimeta Correctional Centre in Adamawa State.
Mamza said that the gesture was part of his annual Christmas outreach aimed at bringing hope, joy and a sense of belonging to inmates during the festive season.
“The initiative was designed to remind those in custody that they are still valued members of society and deserve care, dignity and love.
“Christmas is a season of sharing and reflection, and it was important that inmates are not excluded from the celebration”, he said.
According to him, many of the inmates found themselves behind bars not necessarily because they were hardened criminals, but due to circumstances and misfortunes beyond their control.
Reacting to the gesture, Acting Controller of the Jimeta Correctional Centre Benjamin Reuben who received the items on behalf of the inmates, thanked the bishop for the initiative.
He noted that the support would go a long way in boosting the morale of inmates and improving their welfare.
Reuben further assured of a judicious utilisation of the items for the benefit of the inmates.
