The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a strong warning to former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over his alleged continued attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of his political camp.
Wike said Amaechi could face serious political resistance in Rivers State if he persists in making statements attacking President Tinubu and his supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former Rivers State governor spoke on Friday in Abuja after a meeting with the chairmen of the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory.
Reacting to comments attributed to Amaechi, in which the former minister allegedly described people who would vote for President Tinubu as “thieves” and “mad people,” Wike warned that such remarks could have consequences for Amaechi’s political activities in Rivers State.
According to Wike, Amaechi’s continued attacks could make it difficult for him to enter the state to campaign.
“If he continues along this line, it will be difficult for him to campaign in Rivers. We will not take that. If security agencies and INEC can fold their hands, that’s their business, but we will not allow it,” Wike said.
The statement has further heightened the political tension surrounding Rivers State as political parties and prominent figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, has emerged as one of the prominent opposition figures challenging the Tinubu administration, while Wike remains a key political figure within the President’s camp.
Wike’s warning is therefore expected to generate further reactions from political actors in Rivers State, particularly as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
