Youth leaders across Okigwe Zone in Imo State have resolved to unite under a common political front ahead of the 2027 general elections, adopting a strategic agenda aimed at advancing the zone’s socio-political interests.

The resolution was reached on Sunday, March 22, 2026, during a Strategic Youth Summit held at Rock View Hotel, Owerri, under the theme: “Okigwe Youths Bond Alliance Holds Summit, Adopts Okigwe Governorship and Longers Anyanwu Senate 2027.”

In a welcome address delivered by the Leader of Okigwe Zone Youth Alliance, Hon. Chinagorom Cyriacus, the youths emphasized the need for unity and collective action in addressing the social, economic, and political challenges facing the zone.

The summit brought together key youth bodies, including Imo Youth Matrix, Imo Youth Parliament, Okigwe Progressive Change, Okigwe Unite, and various student unions, all of whom pledged commitment to a shared vision for the zone’s development.

The participants paid tribute to past leaders, particularly the late former governor, Sam Mbakwe, acknowledging their foundational contributions to the growth of Okigwe Zone. They also commended contemporary leaders, including Chief Tony Chukwu and HRH Eze Ohanwe, for their roles in sustaining political engagement and democratic values in the state.

The youths further expressed appreciation to past and present political office holders, with special recognition of former governor Ikedi Ohakim, for their contributions to the development of the zone.

In a notable highlight, the group lauded the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, describing him as “a father, brother, and friend” to the people of Okigwe Zone, while commending his administration’s developmental strides across the zone.

Following extensive deliberations, the summit adopted a series of resolutions through a motion moved by Hon. Sixtus Njoku and seconded by Hon. Ugochukwu Ekwebelem.

Key among the resolutions was the formal establishment of a unified Youth Alliance across Okigwe Zone to support political leaders in advancing the zone’s collective interests ahead of 2027.

The youths backed the Okigwe Zone position on the Charter of Equity, reaffirming their commitment to fairness, inclusion, and the zone’s rightful place in the political arrangement of the state.

In a decisive move, the alliance unanimously adopted Chief Longers Anyanwu (Ebubedike) as their preferred candidate for the Imo North Senatorial seat in 2027.

The group described him as a capable, pragmatic, and people-oriented leader, well-positioned to provide effective representation in the Red Chamber.

They further appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma and other political stakeholders to heed their call, stressing that the endorsement reflects the collective will of youths across Okigwe Zone.

Signatories to the communiqué include Hon. Chinagorom Cyriacus (Obowo), Hon. Sixtus Njoku (Ehime Mbano), Hon. Ugochukwu Ekwebelem (Onuimo), Hon. Iyke Anunam (Isiala Mbano), Hon. Okechi Daniel (Ihitte Uboma), and Comrade Christiana Udunna (Okigwe).

The summit concluded with a call for unity, peaceful engagement, and sustained collaboration among stakeholders to achieve a more progressive Okigwe Zone.
