The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed deep sorrow over the reported death of Comrade Etimbuk Daniel, the immediate past Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), who reported like died at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation in Enugu State. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the student community, particularly among students and former student leaders in Akwa Ibom State, where the deceased was known for his leadership role as the former president of the Students’ Union Government of Akwa Ibom State.
According to National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Daniel was reportedly given medication, but his condition worsening afterwards. He allegedly requested to be taken to the hospital, but the approval for medical attention came too late.
NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said the doctor later reportedly identified the drugs administered to him as fake.
The student body has called for accountability and strong measures to tackle the menace of fake drugs, adding that further actions and its official position on the incident would be communicated in due course.
As his former colleagues and loved ones comes to terms with the loss, the questions surrounding his final hours remain unanswered. For his family and friends, the immediate concern is the loss of loved one.
For the wider community, his death is a painful reminder of how abruptly life can change and of the importance of ensuring that anyone who falls ill receives timely and appropriate medical attention.
