This is a sad moment as we received information about a well-known school in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where a bookshelf reportedly fell and killed one of its pupils during school hours.
According to reports, a little girl died at Wisdom Gate International School in March 2026. It is alleged that the school authorities attempted to cover up the incident and intimidate the child’s parents.
It was gathered that the child fell asleep in the classroom when the bookshelf fell on her, fracturing her skull. The child died from the impact and subsequent bleeding from the nose. The parents were only informed after the school authorities had taken the child to two different hospitals, both of which reportedly confirmed that she was dead. Witnesses also say the school quickly cleaned the scene and moved the bookshelf, later claiming that books falling from the shelf struck the child and caused her death.
Sources further allege that the Nigeria Police Force at the Port Harcourt State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has hindered the investigation by refusing to release the autopsy report and by acting to protect the school’s image.
Well-meaning Nigerians are calling on the Inspector General of Police, the Rivers State Government, and the state commissioner of police to investigate this tragic incident and ensure that justice is served.
