Islamic cleric Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the condition of almajiri children across Nigeria.
Gumi made the appeal after witnessing large numbers of children engaged in street begging, describing their situation as a serious social challenge that demands immediate government attention.
He stressed that these children deserve to benefit from the nation’s resources like every other citizen.
The cleric proposed a comprehensive, “Marshall plan” style strategy aimed at integrating almajiri children into society.
According to him, this should include access to formal education, improved social welfare, and well-structure support system to secure their future.
