More than 500 Islamic scholars, preachers and clerics from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
The endorsement was made during a meeting of the Muslim Intellectual Forum in Dutse, Jigawa State, where scholars passed a vote of confidence in the Tinubu administration and called on Nigerians to support the President’s re-election bid.
The forum said it reviewed developments in the North under Tinubu, including infrastructure, security, education, healthcare, water supply and other public services, expressing satisfaction with what it described as progress in security and economic region.
The scholars specifically cited improvements in security in part of Sokoto, Katsina and Kaduna, while acknowledging that more needs to be done in areas still facing insecurity, particularly Zamfara and Kebbi states.
They also highlighted the rehabilitation of the Kano-Kaduna highway as an important infrastructure project for the region.
The endorsement comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ruling All Progressives Congress already putting structures in place for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The development represents another major show of support for Tinubu from a northern religious bloc as political parties and opposition groups intensify their mobilisation ahead of the presidential contest.
