President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Hausa communities in Nigeria and around the world as they celebrate World Hausa Day.
Tinubu described the Hausa people as “great pillars” whose contributions remain important to Nigeria’s unity, peace and development.
The President stated this in a message shared on his official X handle on Wednesday.
He praised the Hausa community for its role in strengthening Nigeria’s social and cultural ties.
“The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
The President also highlighted the growing global importance of the Hausa language.
He described Hausa as a major language of communication, trade and cultural exchange across Nigeria and other parts of Africa.
Tinubu congratulated the Hausa community on the celebration being held at the historic Daura Palace.
“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today,” he said.
World Hausa Day, also known as Ranar Hausa, is celebrated annually on August 26.
The initiative began as a social media campaign by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote the Hausa language and its cultural heritage.
The celebration has since expanded beyond Nigeria, with Hausa communities marking the occasion across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.
However, World Hausa Day has not been officially recognised by the United Nations.
Hausa remains one of Nigeria’s most widely spoken languages and is also prominent across several African countries.
Tinubu’s message underscored the importance of indigenous languages in promoting unity, preserving cultural identity and strengthening communication across communities.
