Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emit of Gumel.
The appointment followed the recommendation of the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.
Dr. Lawan succeeds his father, the late Emir of Gumel Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on September 3, 2026, after 46 years on the throne.
Until his appointment, the Emir served as Chiroman Gumel and was Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim, Governor Namadi congratulated tthe new Emir and. wished him “many years of successful service to the Gumel Emirate and the nation”
The Governor commended the Gumel Emirate Council kingsmakers, led by the Wazirin Gumel, Adamu Nasoro, for their role in the selection process.
He further expressed appreciation to the Emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim and Dutse, who form the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, for their “invaluable advice” during the process
The State Government also renewed iits condolences to the royal family, the people of Gumel Emirate and the entire people of Jigawa State over the death of the former Emir.
The government prayed for Allah to forgive the late Emir’s shortcoming , accept his good deeds, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
