The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has demanded that Defence Minister Christopher Musa provide evidence for his allegation that El-Rufai planned killings in Southern Kaduna while serving as governor.
The family made the demand in a statement signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The statement followed comments reportedly made by Musa during a live edition of Politics Today on Channels Television on September 3.
According to the family, the minister alleged that El-Rufai was actively involved in planning killings in Southern Kaduna during his tenure as governor.
The family described the allegation as “grave” and expressed concern that Musa did not provide evidence to support the claim.
While acknowledging the minister’s right to express his opinion, the family said it also had the right to demand credible evidence for such a serious accusation.
The family therefore gave Musa seven days from the date of its statement to either provide evidence supporting the allegation or publicly retract it.
It also demanded that any retraction and apology be made through the same medium where the allegation was aired.
The family warned that failure to comply with the demand would leave it with “no option” but to pursue appropriate legal remedies.
El-Rufai served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and later as Governor of Kaduna State. He is also currently identified by the family as an opposition leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The statement was issued in Abuja on September 7 by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the El-Rufai family.
