In a major cross-party political alignment ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, on Wednesday formally declared the support of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking on behalf of APGA at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the State House, Abuja, Governor Soludo described the current political convergence as historic.
“Mr. President, to the best of my knowledge, there is no time in Nigeria’s history that there has been a greater political and elite consensus,” Soludo told the gathering, pointing to the attendance of about 33 state governors across party lines.
Outlining the ideological basis for APGA’s endorsement, Soludo highlighted three central pillars: national unity, security, and shared prosperity.
“APGA is the first party in Nigeria registered as progressive in 2002—APC came 12 years later,” Soludo noted. “APGA believes in the unity, security, and shared prosperity of Nigeria. That is part of the reason we are throwing our weight behind the President, who symbolizes these three pillars.”
The governor also commended the Tinubu administration’s economic direction, acknowledging that while ongoing economic reforms are challenging, they remain essential for long-term growth.
“The path that you have chosen, that you have had the courage to take, is a difficult but necessary path. That is why we are joining with you,” he said.
Concluding his address, Soludo assured the President of APGA’s commitment beyond the elections, characterizing a potential second term as an “acceleration phase” transitioning from economic reform to shared prosperity under a philosophy of “pragmatic progressivism.”
“We are a partner in this journey back to Aso Rock, and we will remain your partner in the governance process,” Soludo added.
