The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed October 9 to 15, 2026, for the nationwide display of the Preliminary Register of Voters ahead of 2027 general elections.
The exercise will allow registered voters to verify their details and raise claims or objections where necessary.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, announced the dates on Tuesday at a national stakeholders’ meeting convened to mark 100 days to the 2027 general election.
Amupitan said the exercise was being conducted in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
“Compliance with Section 19, subsection 1 of the Electoral Act 2026, the register of voters will be displayed for public scrutiny from the 9th to 15 of October 2026”, he said. “There is an objection arising from this nationwide display, and the registration areas will be addressed thereafter”
The Commission also announced that distribution of the first phase of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to all local government centres would commence on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Amupitan said the Commission had introduced new measures to make voter registration and access to voter cards easier.
“It will introduce for the first time in Nigeria the online registration portal technology for registrants to eliminate barriers of distance and time”, he said.
He added that the Commission had also introduced printable PVC technology. INEC said the voters’ register for the 2027 general election would be presented to political parties on December 15, 2026.
Amupitan said the Commission had already completed nine of the 14 statutory milestones contained in its revised timetable for the 2027 elections. He said the 100-day milestones was “not ,just a countdown” but “a call to action” towards delivering an election that would meet global standards of transparency, integrity and peace.
INEC said the move follows the completion of the three-phase Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, which added more than 19.7 million new registrants to the national register.
Nigeria’s total registered voters now stand at over 103 million, according to INEC.
