A fresh legal action has been instituted before the Federal High Court in Owerri over the proposed investigation into the management of a ₦100 million gift from the Imo State Government to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Owerri Branch, under its Chairman, Mazi Udegbulem.
The development follows a decision on 20, October 2026 by the High Court of Imo State sitting in Aboh Mbaise to decline an application seeking an interim order restraining an NBA committee in Owerri from investigating the management of the funds.
In a statement commenting on the latest development, a critic of the court action questioned the decision to approach the Federal High Court in Owerri after the application was declined by the state High Court.
The statement also alleged that the NBA chairman and his team had deliberately avoided the High Court of Imo State sitting in Owerri, which was initially the appropriate court to hear the matter.
Mazi Udegbulem filed a fresh suit at the Federal High Court in Owerri, challenging the legality of the meeting and the five-member committee.
The latest development places the dispute over the ₦100 million government gift and its management before another court, with the question of jurisdiction likely to be central to any further proceedings.
