All is set for the inauguration ceremony of Professor Chukwuma Soludo as the Governor of Anambara state. Governor-elect, Soludo has touched down at the Government house as outgoing Willie Obiano is set to transfer the mantle of leadership to him after a successful Eight years running of the state’s affair.
The Willie Obiano and Professor Soludo’s power transition looks the new model of power succession in a Nation used to cat and rat-like drama between the incomings and outgoings.A clear case was what transpired in Imo State where the outgoing Governor, Rochas Okorocha fought nail and tooth to see to it that he was succeeded by his son in-law as the Governor of Imo state. Even after failing woefully, betraying APC and throwing his weight at Uche who was contesting under a relatively unknown party; AA and following the fight up to the supreme court, the distraught two-time Governor still saw his effort come to nought.
What Imo witnessed when the Supreme Court in their infamous ruling sacked former house of reps member, Emeka Ihedioha to declare Hope Uzodimma of APC the winner of the 2019 election was anything but peace. To date, the state’s political structure is still in limbo as hands are pointed aggressively in accusations of stolen mandate.One of the highlights of Willie Obiano remains the new Anambara International Cargo Airport of which construction was rounded off late last year, and the newly commissioned gigantic Conference centre.The Hollywood standard election of Anambara state which saw many prominent sons of the land contest for the State’s number one position, like Val Ezeigbo and co left the people with a well grounded personality in leadership in person of Professor Soludo.
The ceiling is high for the amiable revolutionary and the expectation on his governance over the roof. He has been tipped to define what modern leadership on state level connotes. What is more eye catching remains perhaps, the visible cordial relationship and show of sportsmanship between the old and the new. Over the last few weeks, the pairs have been pictured on numerous occasions in what is not an everyday sight in a setting where leaders are reluctant to relinquish power, even if it means foisting a successor on the people like Rochas attempted and failed to achieve in Imo.
