Anambra State PDP chieftain, Chief Amechi Onowu has declared his intentions to become the next state chairman of the party.

In a press statement made available to 9News Nigeria by Chief Amechi’s press secretary, he cited the reasons why it is imminent and apt that he takes over the party’s leadership mantle which includes “to revive the party which is sick and dying under the inept leadership of Hon Ndubuisi Nwobu.”

The letter reads thus:

Why I want to become PDP Anambra state chairman.

I want to become the chairman of the party in order to revive the party which is sick and dying under the inept leadership of Hon Ndubuisi Nwobu.

  1. He inherited two senators, seven House of Rep members and some House of Assembly members, and currently, he left us with just one Senator, three Federal House members with numerous stake holders leaving the party.
  1. Hon Nwobu having failed to deliver his preferred candidate at the last governorship primaries worked against the party. This was manifest in his refusal to participate in the local government campaign tours.

He has violated the constitution of the party by using signatories other than those authorized by our constitution. He used Ogbuka/ Okpala and Nwakobi instead of Ogbuka/Mgbemena and Okoye Akirika.

  1. He did not embark on any grassroots tour throughout his tenure to mobilize members of our party. Actually I am the first chairmanship candidate in the history of the PDP to start off local government tours, to meet delegates and solicit for their votes.
  2. Hon Nwobu has abused his office by, amongst other things, sidelining the state working committee, changing the various executives at the ward and local government levels without due process. For example the incident that came up at the zonal meeting between Ogbuka, Governor of Enugu State and State Secretary.

From the above, it is obvious that Hon Ogbuka did fail as both chairman and caretaker committee chairman of the party and therefore has no business contesting for that position.

We do not reward failure in Igbo land.
