Following the introduction of neck-breaking taxes and levies in Anambra State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) government of continued insensitivity.
The accusation was made by the Publicity Secretary of PDP in the state, Mr Nnamdi Nwangwu in a press release made available to journalists.
Mr Nwangwu said that it is worrisome that the APGA-controlled government is still imposing heavy taxes on traders and businessmen in the state at a time responsible state governments all over the globe are offering incentives to businesses to bounce back from the havoc wrecked by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have it on good authority that government revenue agents are making life unbearable for traders and businessmen in Awka, Nnewi, Onitsha and other places in the state. This is really unfortunate and it has shown how insensitive the APGA controlled government is.” Nwangwu noted.
“Keke drivers must buy Anambra State sanitation bucket for seven thousand Naira (N7000) if they want to operate at all . They must in addition buy a daily ticket of four hundred and fifty Naira (N450) from the government and her agents. Our government seem to be wicked and mindless. The irony of the whole thing is that eighty percent of this money ends up in government officials’ private bank accounts.
”The stealing in Anambra State is mind-boggling, the poor people of the state are being exploited beyond measure and imagination. A day of reckoning is certainly approaching,” Nwangwu lamented.
The PDP condemn the ugly development, pointing out that, what the good people of Anambra State need at the moment is enabling environment from government to do business with ease.
The Publicity Secretary also restated the fact that infrastructural decay in Anambra State has assumed an unprecedented level.
“It is really unimaginable that the APGA government has helplessly watched the total collapse of infrastructure in Anambra State. Almost all the state roads have become deathtraps. Movement across the state has become herculean and this again has negatively impacted businesses and trade.
“In a rare demonstration of cluelessness, the governor, Chief Willie Obiano, went to Aso Rock seat of government to complain about the condition of federal roads in the state but the truth is that if he had given any attention to the poor condition of state roads, things wouldn’t have been so difficult for the good people of the state.” The PDP image maker emphasized.
Mr Nwangwu urged the good people of the state not to despair as the PDP is coming to give them a responsible and responsive government after the exit of APGA-controlled government in 2022.
He also said that the APGA government should be prepared to be punished by Anambra State electorates who will vote the irresponsible and reckless APGA government out of office.
