The students of Taraba State University, Jalingo have suspended their planned demonstration against strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU).
The President, National Union of Taraba State Students, NUTASS, Aliyu Sulaiman made this announcement on Tuesday, while briefing newsmen in Jalingo, and where he noted that the union is giving the state government 48 hours ultimatum to resolve the crisis.
He said that it is necessary for the government to act immediately and ensure students return to classes without further delays.
It was reported earlier that the students had planned a peaceful protest by Monday to register their frustration caused by the ongoing strike.
To buttress their assertion, Nungamiya Lodiya, Chairman of the Joint Campus Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Taraba State Chapter also submitted that while they agreed to the postponement, the students would shut down all roads within the state, if the crisis was not resolved.
Sources also revealed that other students leaders have expressed their frustrations on the issue.
The Taraba State chapter of ASUU began an indefinite strike last week Thursday, disrupting examinations and final year academic activities.
According to them, the “unmet demands” by the state government forced them to embark on the strike action.
