The chairman of Borno State All Progressives Congress (APC) Bello Ayuba, has been inaugurated as the chairman, board member of the National Agricultural Research Institute, Abuja.
He was inaugurated alongside other chairmen of boards of agricultural research institutes, colleges, and other agencies under the ministries Agriculture and Food Security, Livestock Development and Marine and Blue Economy.
The inauguration took place on Tuesday at Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, ARCN Abuja.
It was presided over by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari.
Speaking at the event, Kyari said the appointees are appointed in recognition of their professional excellence, noting that it is also a strategic step towards achieving the agricultural transformation goals of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
”This is a pivotal moment, where policy meets implementation, and vision begins to take root through your stewardship,” he said.
He emphasized that agriculture remains central to Nigeria’s economic growth, job creation, and food security, noting that President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency on food security underscores its national importance.
He equally outlined the ongoing implementation of the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP 2022–2027), aimed at modernizing agriculture and increasing productivity.
He said the recent release of 37 improved crop varieties by research institutes—ranging from maize and rice to biofortified tomatoes and sesame are a testament to the sector’s potential.
He further announced the recent launch of the National Agribusiness Policy Mechanism (NAPM) on May 7, 2025, describing it as a critical governance tool to improve coordination, monitoring, and delivery of agribusiness and research interventions nationwide.
On the appointees, the minister charged them to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity, work closely with key stakeholders to align with the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria in delivering on their institutional mandates.
”You are expected to lead with purpose, mobilize resources, and champion innovation and professionalism in the institutions under your watch,” he said, while assuring them of the ministry’s continued support.
Other appointees are APC chairmen of different states.
