Fresh attack on Benue communities
Gunmen on Tuesday morning attacked several villages in three Local Government Area of Benue State, killing 25 people and wounding several others
A resident in the area, Mr. Tewase Hembe, who spoke to the media, on phone, said the three local government areas are Guma, Logo and Tarka.
He said the LGA’s came under severe gunfire between 9pm on Monday night and 4am on Tuesday, leaving 15 corpses in Tyotugh community in Tarka LGA while nine other dead bodies were recovered from Guma and one, a traditional ruler from Logo.
He said the search for more bodies has continued with fear that casualty figures could be higher.
Caleb Aba Chairman of Guma LGA, who confirmed the incident to reporters, said seven people were killed in one swoop at Tse-Sumaka village near branch Umenger in Mbadwem council ward of Guma.
Also, the Special Adviser on Security to the Benue State governor, Lt Col. Paul Hemba (Rtd), said the total figures of death recorded so far could be higher than 25 as efforts are ongoing to trace missing persons.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, did not pick her calls and did not respond to text messages sent to her.
