Nekede Owerri West Imo State Nigeria was agog at the commissioning of a three classroom block with conveniences in one of the foremost secondary school in the area on Thursday 27-07-2024.
Our correspondent reports that the commissioning attracted alot of dignitaries across the three arms of old Nekede and people from Owerri Federal constituency turned out en-masse to witness the event.
Recall that the member representing Owerri Federal Constituency in the green chambers Abuja, Rt Hon Sir Tochukwu Chinedu Okere (Toska) embarked on several constituency projects within his 100days in office together with building of 3-classroom block across the wards.
This feat recorded in such a short space of time is uncommon and very rapid in the history of serial lists of House of Reps Members in the area who served before Tochukwu Okere as 9News reports.
Speaking at the commissioning, Reps Tochukwu Okere reassured his constituents of his readiness to develop the area while stating that such gesture of benevolence is an inborn virtue and an enviable feat he acquired from grassroot and family bloodline where his leadership potency erupted and has continued to expand to helping and developing both humanity and the society.
Hon Toska as popular called, had earlier promised the people of Owerri Federal constituency of quality representation, equitable service delivery and empowerment across wards in his time as serving House of Reps member.
9News reports that Rt Hon Sir Tochukwu Chinedu Okere was shocked at the reception given to him by the crowds of Nekede people, the students and teachers of the secondary school. The people of the area truly showcased to him their wonderful hospitality, acceptability of his personality and show of appreciation exhibited during the commissioning.
Presenting an address tagged “Welcome and Appreciation” by the Principals, Teachers, PTA and Students of Nekede Secondary School, Owerri West LGA at the commissioning arena of a Three (3) classroom block with modern day facilities and well equipped convenience, Principal Senior Secondary School (SSS) Mrs Chikere M.C maintained that when the project was firstly announced to them by Toska project team , they were contemplating, building materials kept streaming in and surprisingly work started in earnest under serious supervision by his anchor person in Nekede (Mr Shanka Ejiogu) and was fully completed and commissioned within the space of two months.
She however prayed for God’s great reward on Hon Toska and his project team and prayed that his future ambition will be successful by God’s grace and power. She also thanked Hon Chinedu Ejiogu (Shanka) for attracting such a wonderful projects particularly now the school need serious renovations to the benefit of the generality of Ndi Nekede and the students at large.
She did not mince words to welcome her superior Mrs Azubuike Augustina, the executive secretary, State Education Management Board and her principal colleague for JSS, Mrs Amasiatu Maureen for being supportive of this noble achievement and also graced the commissioning occasion.
The management of Nekede secondary school Owerri West also confirmed the numerous projects established within one year in office of sir Tochukwu Okere as marvelous, in addition to their enjoyment of federal presence brought to the school by same Toska Okere.

In addition, Reps member Toska Okere registered WAEC examination for many indigent students in the school irrespective of tribal differences, reactivated the long forgotten borehole to be in-use and the recent Three classroom block with water system toilets, principal Chikere hinted.
Apart from the commissioning , the school management further presented the pressing needs of the school to the Federal House member, for immediate assistance and help which Included renovation of classrooms, beefing up of a 24hrs security network, perimeter fencing, reactivation of burgled science laboratory, solar panel and generator vandalized by hoodlums, when put in order, will help enhance the status of Nekede secondary school as gathered by 9News Nigeria.
Besides his kindheartedness, Toska Okere shocked the crowd by making another heartfelt promise at the scene of commissioning. He told the school management to expect free note books from him to empower every student of Nekede secondary school Owerri West, from Junior to Senior Secondary.
In the mid of the event, the First indigenous teacher of Nekede secondary school from its time of establishment in 1978 , Nze Awumonye Nwaneri – ( Nkuku Miri of Umuoma) expressed happiness alongside other indigenous teachers for being present to witness the commissioning event set in motion by the Owerri Federal House member, Rt Hon Toska Okere to empower the students.
In his vote of thanks, Traditional Ruler of Umuoma Nekede autonomous community HRH Eze MSJ Eke PhD charged the students to take studies seriously to enable them attain great heights in the near future.
Eze Omadike who spoke on behalf of other traditional rulers present at the event, prayed for more blessings upon Sir Toska Okere for his unwavering efforts to establish his constituency projects within a short space of time in office and charged him to do more. The Royal father also challenged other elected officers in the area across political parties to do same.
At a brief stop in the palace of HRH Eze Morrison Eke, Toska expressed respect to the traditional stool, humility and readiness to continue serving the people of Owerri Federal constituency and hopefully Imo state at large , if given the opportunity through massive votes.
The National President of Nekede Federated Union NFU who doubles as the founder of one of foremost indigenous radio and television stations -Zandersfmtv, High Chief Kennedy Zanders applauded Toska for the project he executed in Nekede.
He also reminded him that his political status is for all the people of Owerri Federal Constituency and not labour party only, as chorused. He reminded Toska that his position is for all his constituents Inspite political party affiliations.
The commissioning featured dignitaries too numerous to mention which Included traditional rulers, ugoezes, community leaders, clergy, president generals, cabinet members, youths, women groups and Hausa community groups who trooped out en-masse to celebrate Toska.
The Finality of the commissioning event was the joyous expressions seen manifest on the faces of the masses who happily celebrated the initiator Rt Hon Toska Okere and the students who made several presentations and entertained the guests, featuring special songs, traditional dance, welcome song and community dance before he proceeded for same commissioning in Obibiezena development primary school and other locations.
