TIENGO GAS STATION LAMBAST IMO GOVT.
By Onyenwe Princely (9News Nigeria)
Following the order of Imo state government to shut down Tiengo Gas plant at Umuoma Nekede in owerri west, the management has commenced serious maitainance work and possible re-opening of business at the plant.
Our correspondent has it that the efforts of Imo government to resolve the lingering crisis between the community, the family of the bereaved and the directors of the plant has proved abortive.
Recall that the inferno was caused by a gas tanker discharging its product at Tiengo Gas Plant located in Umuoma Nekede and in the process killed a family of five and roosted them to death by sudden fire shock caused by the mis-management of the gas plant.
Deputy Governor Professor Placid Njoku visited the scene of incident then to confirm the inferno and later on the station was sealed.
Meanwhile, the Director of the station has shun all orders by government and continued his operational work at the gas plant without due certification by government.
Information reaching us from the residents of the area revealed that the management of the gas station has continue to prove recalcitrant over its order of relocation by government and maintained that he will site the gas station same place and that no power can remove him.The source also hinted that the allocation paper given to him was through a backdoor service of the management of IMO OCDA whose jurisdiction did not empower the establishment of the gas plant against that of the approval of DPR.They residents are crying bitterly and using this medium to send this sos to relevant agencies.
Meanwhile the affected family of Mr Onyekpandu Ekeada have since then been lavishing in ignorance and pains of the incident till date calling on govt for assistance.
The community is calling for immediate closure of work on the site and possible settlement of the affected family.
The director of the gas plant was unreachable when contacted at the time of this report.
