The winner of the just concluded gubernatorial election in Bayelsa state, Mr. David Lyon of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has paid a courtesy visit to the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
My Lyon made the visit in a way to appreciate the president and the APC executives for the massive support and political catalyst he received during the last concluded election.
However, the election was heavily marred by characteristics of violence of the highest order according to report by Civil society groups.
The Centre for Democracy and Development and the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities had gravely accused Nigerian security operatives for allegedly colluding with state officials to undermine the electoral process in both Bayelsa and Kogi states.
Presenting a report on the elections to journalists in Abuja on Monday. According to the news report earlier published by 9News Nigeria, Mrs. Idayat Hassan, the Executive Director of the Centre for Democracy and Development had said that many voters were disenfranchised in Kogi as a result of threats to life.
In her words, the CDD Executive Director said: “violently and crudely undermined by an unrelenting band of partisan outlaws.” She also noted that CDD observers and journalists in Kogi had reported the death of 10 persons and over 79 critical incidents during the polls in the state.
In the same manner, there were numerous reports of grave violent activities witnessed and recorded by observers in Bayelsa state as well.
