Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has credited former President Muhammadu Buhari’s repeated visits to the North-East during the peak of Boko Haram insurgency for restoring hope and boosting the morale of residents and security forces.
Speaking on Monday at the one-year remembrance ceremony held in honour of the late President in Abuja, Governor Zulum said he witnessed firsthand Buhari’s commitment to the people of Borno while serving as governor.
“As the Governor of Borno State, I had the privilege of working closely with the late President and I can personally attest to his genuine concern for the welfare and wellbeing of the people of the state,” Zulum said.
The Governor recalled that President Buhari assumed office at a time when insecurity in the North-East had reached its peak.
According to him, the late President’s determination to confront insurgency brought stability back to many communities that were previously under siege.
Zulum noted that Buhari’s physical presence in Borno at critical moments of the crisis sent a strong signal to both citizens and troops.
“Former President Buhari’s repeated visits to Borno at the height of the insurgency significantly boosted the morale of residents and inspired confidence among security personnel engaged in the fight against terrorism,” he said.
The Governor described the late President as a leader defined by integrity, discipline, and patriotism, adding that his dedication to national service and unity will remain a lasting legacy.
“Former President Buhari’s contributions to the nation’s unity, progress, and stability have secured him an enduring place in Nigeria’s history. His leadership and sacrifices will continue to inspire future generations,” Zulum stated.

The remembrance ceremony in Abuja brought together eminent Nigerians to honour the life and service of the former President.
