Senior Iranian officials are reportedly growing increasingly concerned about the health of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, amid claims that he may be in critical condition.
According to an exclusive report by IranWire, rumours about Khamenei’s health have intensified within Iran’s political establishment.
Two sources close to President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration reportedly told the outlet that Khamenei has not met with any cabinet member since assuming office.
His prolonged absence from public view has reportedly raised questions among senior officials about his physical condition and ability to govern.
Khamenei has also not made any public appearance or delivered a speech since becoming Supreme Leader.
Only a small number of letters attributed to him have been released through Iranian state-linked news agencies.
One source close to Pezeshkian’s cabinet reportedly described Khamenei’s physical condition as poor.
The source added that officials would not be surprised if reports of his death emerged soon.
The concerns have reportedly triggered discussions within sections of Iran’s leadership about the implications of any deterioration in Khamenei’s health.
However, President Pezeshkian has rejected suggestions that the Supreme Leader is unable to perform his duties.
He said interaction with Khamenei was increasing and insisted that the Supreme Leader continued to provide guidance on the country’s affairs.
Khamenei’s reported absence comes months after the February 28 US-Israeli military operation targeting Iran’s military, nuclear and political leadership.
IranWire reported that the attack killed former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several members of his family, as well as senior military and security officials.
Mojtaba Khamenei subsequently assumed the country’s highest political and religious office.
Despite his continued absence from public appearances, Iranian authorities maintain that he remains actively involved in governing the country.
