COVID-19 2ND WAVE; NAUTH Acting CMD sends message to Anambrarians.

As the number of Covid-19 cases keep rising on daily basis as a result of the emergence of second (2nd) wave of the viral pandemic, the newly appointed Acting Chief Medical Director for Nnamdi Azikwe Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi Dr. Joseph Ugboaja on Tuesday the 26th day of January 2021 advised the general public especially those resident in Anambra State to take preventive measures very seriously.

Dr. Stated this during a private interview with pressmen at this Hospital office. The young medical administrator who is known for his proactiveness in handling administrative matters took to explain the nature of the second wave. He described it as being more aggressive and deadlier by the rate of infectivity. He attributed to rapid rise in the cases to the fact that people just ended the festive period and several interventional and local travels were made.

Dr. Ugboaja commended the Government for how far they have responded to the wave with provisions of Isolation centers, PPEs and establishment of Virology labs in almost all Tertiary Health institutions.

His advice to the public concerning the second wave of the virus came thus; ’’The public need to be very careful and observe the prescribed preventive measures especially the use of face masks and avoiding crowding and contact greetings. The community, religion and Press should get involved in the sensitization campaign to encourage People to abide by these measures. ‘’
He advised citizens to report early for treatment once you have Covid -19 like symptoms such as cough, weakness, fever etc.

On the controversy trailing the introduction of the vaccine, he said the introduction of the vaccine is a welcome development capable of significantly reducing the number of cases and death rate. He urged the government to double its efforts at procuring and distributing the vaccine.

Until his appointment as the Acting CMD in NAUTH, Dr Joseph Ugboaja serve as the Chairman Medical Advisory Council of the hospital.
