Wife of the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 general elections, Mrs. Lilian Adebayo, on Wednesday, assured Nigerians that her husband, Prince Adewole Adebayo, remains fully committed to the Social Democratic Party, adding that he has no plans to defect.

Mrs. Adebayo gave the assurances during an interview with newsmen in Abuja, when she hosted the forum of state chairmen of the SDP.

She emphasized her husband’s long-standing loyalty to the party, noting that he has been a member since his teenage years and had remained steadfast despite numerous opportunities to join other political parties.

“My husband, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has always said it publicly — he joined the SDP when he was 19 years old, and he is still with the party. He has had opportunities to move to other parties like the PDP and others, but he never did.

“He has stayed committed to the SDP, and in the next election, by the grace of God, he’s still going to be there. He’s not leaving the SDP for any other party whatsoever, and I’m very confident about that,” she said.

Mrs. Adebayo also commended the SDP for its ability to resolve internal disputes amicably, unlike some other political parties that have been plagued by prolonged internal conflicts.

She stated: “Every party has had its share of challenges, but the SDP has been able to handle its own very well. You don’t hear the kind of rancour and divisions that happen elsewhere. Whenever issues arise, they’re resolved quickly and peacefully. So I’m not afraid of anything — I know that whatever comes up will be sorted out, and peace will prevail,” she stated.

On her husband’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, Mrs. Adebayo expressed strong optimism, describing him as capable, youthful, and prepared to lead the country effectively.

“I believe he has a great chance if Nigerians are honest with themselves. We’ve had presidents come and go without meaningful change. Nigerians must decide whether they want to continue on that path or choose someone young, capable, and ready to work,” she emphasized.

“My husband is active, intelligent, and passionate about moving this country forward. If Nigerians truly want progress, they know what to do.”

Mrs. Adebayo also called for greater female representation in governance, noting that women bring compassion and balance to leadership.

“Women need more representation in politics. Men usually don’t give women enough opportunities, but if they truly want the nation to progress, they must create room for women.”

“Women lead with empathy — they are kind-hearted and balanced. More women in leadership would be good for the country.”

She further addressed the notion that women fail to support one another in politics, disagreeing with that perception.

“I don’t believe women don’t support themselves. The problem is that men sometimes create divisions among women. If they leave us alone, women will stand together.”

“Personally, I always support women. I was so happy recently when I saw the only female chairman among the others — I gave her a big hug. If she runs for any position, I’ll support her because I know she thinks the same way I do,” Mrs. Adebayo stressed.
