EFCC Arrests 19 Akwa Ibom Varsity Students For Alleged Internet Fraud

Nineteen undergraduates of Akwa Ibom State University, Mkpat -Enin have been arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for suspected Internet related offences.

In a statement issued via Twitter handle, EFCC said the suspects were arrested on Friday April 28, 2023 by the operatives of the Uyo Command.

According to the anti-graft agency, they were arrested at their private hostels: Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge both located at Ikot Akpadem in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Their arrest followed several months of surveillance on their suspected involvement in romance scam, fraudulent crypto currency transaction and impersonation.

“Items recovered from them include, several Laptops and Mobile phones.

“They will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are concluded”, the statement reads further.
