Elon Reeve Musk, the owner of social media platform X, has reaffirmed that the platform will remain a space for open debate where “all sides of an argument are heard”.
Musk stressed that content moderation is handled by community-driven tools like Community Notes, which he described as transparent and impartial.
This come after reports that the Nigerian government, through the Department of State Service (DSS), requested the suspension of African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore’s account over posts critical of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The DSS claimed Sowore’s comments, including video criticizing Tinubu’s remarks on corruption during his Brazil trip, threatened national security.
Musk’s response signals that X Corp. may resist government pressure, especially given Sowore’s long history as a vocal critics of the Nigerian government.
The situation has further fuelled debates around freedom of speech, digital rights, and state control of online spaces in Nigeria.
