By: Francis Udoakpan

The Youth Wing of Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja, ably led by Comrade Christopher Udoh, on Monday August 12, 2024, celebrated International Youth Day, highlighting the resilience and innovation of Nigerian youth in the digital age. The event focused on this year’s theme, “From Click to Progress: Youth Digital Innovation, a Pathway for Sustainable Development,” which emphasized the role of young people in leveraging technology to drive sustainable development.

The celebration featured discussions on how digital tools are enhancing education, fostering entrepreneurship, promoting community engagement, and supporting environmental conservation.

A key highlight was the announcement of the IBOM TECH-SKILL PROJECT 2024, a new initiative aimed at equipping youth with essential skills in areas such as data analysis, cybersecurity, coding, and web development.

The leadership of Akwa Ibom Community, led by Barrister Aniefiok Ibah, was commended for their continued support of youth empowerment, including the provision of funding and resources for skill acquisition. The event also included a call to government and other stakeholders to expand youth empowerment programs especially to youths in Abuja and create more opportunities for young people in the digital economy.

In addition, the youth leadership expressed concern over the insecurity facing Nigerian youths, particularly the ongoing abduction of NYSC members from Akwa Ibom State. Comrade Udoh used the event as an opportunity to call for increased efforts to secure the release of abducted youths all over the nation to foster an environment where young people can thrive.

The event, expertly chaired by Akparawa Dr. Emem Kanico, attracted a distinguished gathering of community leaders, dignitaries and youths from across the country. Notable attendees included Barr. Aniefiok Ibah, President of the Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja, Barr. Gabriel Fan, Vice President, Comrade Kingsley Iwok, Special Assistant to Governor Umo Eno on Mobilization, Abuja, Hon. Dr. Patrick Umoh, Member of the House of Representatives for Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, Obot Akara Federal Constituency, Dr. Mrs. Felicia Ekpe, Women Leader of the Akwa Ibom Community, Abuja, among others.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to deserving and inspiring individuals who have distinguished themselves in various aspects of youth development and empowerment.

As this momentous event continues to linger, the Youth Wing of Akwa Ibom Community remains committed to supporting and empowering the next generation of leaders, believing that today’s digital innovations will lead to a brighter, more sustainable future.

The Youth Day celebration is held annually to commemorate International Youth Day, focusing on harnessing the potential of youth worldwide.
